If we confess our sins surely the Lord will open heavens doors for us. He aptly charges in 1st John Chapter 1 verse 9: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
For Lissa Ncube, an acknowledgement of a wrongdoing and the willingness to let that out of her penitent heart was the only thing that could unlock her blessings that had been eclipsed by lack of confession. Her pathway to wellness had been blocked until she realised the need to come right before God.
“I discovered that long back when I got sick, while I was in my room, I collapsed and my parents took me to Mutambara Mission Hospital where the doctors checked what was wrong with me and found out it was Malaria. But we did not have the money to pay as they wanted me to be admitted,” she said.
Malaria is a disease caused by protozoan parasites that are transmitted through the bite of an infected Anopheles mosquito; and the disease is characterised by paroxysms of chills and fever.
She was troubled seeing her mother doing all she could to pay the hospital bill.
“All I could think of has been the money I stole from my mother as she was the treasurer of the church,” she said ruefully.
Lissa’s condition worsened till her parents did not have any choice but to take her back to the hospital.
“Back then in our rural community there were no Commuter Omnibuses; a forester who is well known for not helping anyone gave us a lift, at first we thought she was joking but to our surprise she was willing to help,” she said. On that day she was admitted.
Staying in a hospital was difficult for Lissa as the hospital odour affected her breathing and sometimes could cause her to vomit.
“The same night I was admitted I heard a voice talking to me, ‘confess your sins.’ I pretended as if I did not know anything and fear gripped me. I woke up the following morning realising that I had wet my bed,” she reminisced.
Even in our wrong doings the Lord will always remember us; He will not leave us nor forsake us. But in order to stay closer to Him we have to cleanse ourselves through confessing our sinfulness. Lissa sinned but the Lord in His unfailing love comes to tell her to confess her sins.
“Doctors came in and out of hospital; it was so boring and I did not like anything that was happening. While thinking of running away a nurse came to me and told me to confess. I was shocked. I ran away from the hospital and sneaked in my little hut back home as my parents were aware that I was hospitalised.
“While sleeping in my room I woke up wanting to relieve myself but as soon as I got to the door I saw a creature I could not describe. Fear gripped me and I started praying the way I felt was through guidance of angel because of the words that I uttered. In my life I had never prayed like that before. Early the following morning I confessed to my mother that I was the one who stole her money. After my confession I felt okay and relieved and knew I was delivered,” she said.
So, confessing opens the doors for everything good in our lives. The Bible in Titus 3:14 teaches us to learn to maintain good works that they be not unfruitful.
Moving on without being clean cannot add value in our lives. Ephesians 5:1 charges us not to have fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness; but rather to reprove them.
Maybe there is someone out there looking for a way to get through all this: all you need to do is to forgive yourself and speak out. The Lord Almighty will hear your prayer always if you give yourself before Him and set it in your heart to want to turn away from wrong by turning to God.
The lord loved us and gave His only son who died for us all. Our sins were nailed with Him on the Cross for us to be in right standing with Him. Therefore, ask Him to create in you a clean heart to with which to worship Him.
Just like Lissa, if you are willing to confess your wrongdoing before the Lord and repent, He is just to forgive you and heal every aspect of your life that is unwell.
